A down-sized climate change measure was signed on Wednesday, Oct. 7 by Gov. Brown to increase renewable energy generation and to make existing buildings more energy-efficient. SB 350 was amended to take out part of the legislation that would have required a reduction in gasoline use on the state’s roads.
SB 350 requires California to increase the use of renewable resources for electricity generation to 50 percent by 2030, spurring the development of more Solar and wind power plants. Existing buildings must double their energy efficiency by 2030, which will likely include the installation of newer energy-efficient appliances.
