Julian - Fatal Motorcycle Crash

The California Highway Patrol reports that a fatal crash occurred Saturday September. 26 on State Route 78 in Julian.

The motorcyclist, from Camp Pendleton, was approaching at speed, a right-hand curve heading east before losing control of his 2015 Kawasaki and skidding into the path of a 2015 minivan in the westbound lane, a CHP report said. The crash occurred along a winding rural stretch of highway near the Whispering Pines Drive exit.

The Medical Examiner's Office have yet to release the rider's name identifying him only as 21, from Camp Pendleton, and have not said if he was in the Marine Corps.

The 45-year-old Murrieta man in the Honda Odyssy, was unable to stop in time to avoid the collision.

Despite efforts to use CPR, the rider suffered major injuries and died lifesaving attempts were unsuccessful, the CHP said. The minivan driver was taken to hospital for treatment of back pain.
