North Shore Stray Dog Sweep

Last updated 9/30/2015 at 3:30pm

Twenty-nine stray dogs have been captured on Monday and Tuesday morning in North Shore and Mecca during a River Side animal control sweep. Officers converged on the area where there is a high level of loose dogs. Officers began early, 6:30 a.m., to prevent the dogs being subjected to high temperatures.

These sweeps usually happen three or four times a year, but recent sweeps were scheduled after a 65-year-old man was attacked and killed by two dogs early September. The dogs were taken to the department's shelter facility in Thousand Palms where they were examined by veterinarians. Officers will evaluate and determine if they will be put up for adoption.
