National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, September 26

People can now take back their expired or unwanted prescriptions to 42 locations in San Diego County. These prescriptions are over populating people’s cabinets and could potentially end up in the wrong hands. In the U.S. the rate of prescription drug abuse in high. Studies show that abused prescriptions are obtained from family and friends, including the medicine cabinet.
Some prescriptions can’t be flushed down the toilet because they are dangerous to the environment. Instead, let law enforcement dispose of the them safely on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at 42 sites throughout San Diego County. San Diego County Sheriff will be present at 12 of those locations, one will be supervised by District Attorney’s Office and another by Probation staff. Please note that needles or sharps are not accepted. The service is free and anonymous.
The community of Borrego Springs can take back their unwanted prescriptions year ’round by calling the local Sheriff’s office at 760-767-5656 to make an appointment and drop their prescriptions in the bin. It is an anonymous action.
