Fires Destroy Homes, One Dead in Northern California

There are currently 12 active fires across California. The northern state fires have already destroyed 720 houses and thousands more structures are threatened. Valley Fire in Lake, Napa and Solano Counties has destroyed 585 houses and is threatening 9,000 structures. The fire that started on Sept. 12 is 15 percent contained and has injured four firefighters, and has claimed the life of a 72-year-old disabled and retired teacher.
The Butte Fire in Amador & Calaveras Counties, combined with Valley Fire have forced the evacuation of 23,000 people. At least eight firefighters who are fighting the fires in Northern California have lost their homes. Their families were not injured.
California Fires in 2015 have burned more land than in any other year in the past decade. Director of the Governor's Office of Emergency Services said that fires are spreading quickly due to the drought-stricken California.
Butte Fire is 45 percent contained.
Valley Fire is 30 percent contained.
Lumpkin Fire is 40 percent contained.
