Had some lovely, serene, quiet lunches this summer at La Casa del Zorro. Found a favorite item on the menu and had it every time. The California BLT is simply delicious. Ask for it cut into quarters and you can take half home. Huge, dark whole wheat toast, mayo, tomato, marvelous bacon and avocado. A number of sides are offered. The fruit is delicious, too, and some can go home.

There is a spa ‘Staying Healthy’ menu with low calorie entrees such as tabbouleh salad, lox and petite bagels, poached salmon salad with spinach and asparagus, and many more.

Manager Patrick Sampson was kind enough to let me know that The Butterfield Room will reopen Oct. 27. Now we know that Jay Pastoral will be Executive Chef. He has served at Hotel Del Coronado, Palm Desert Country Club, Stoneridge Country Club in Poway, and here at de Anza Country Club. Welcome!

Our erudite publisher, Patrick Meehan, really enjoys his pit stops in Warner Springs at the Emerald Winery, and the County Line BBQ & Café. We should go up there for a treat.

A few of the ‘Ladies who Lunch’ gathered at Red Ocotillo last week. Our waiter Tony was so helpful – we are so fussy! A delicious and beautiful Bloody Mary was made with wine! No liquor there. Soup of the Day was New England clam chowder. I have lived in New England, but this was absolutely the best I’ve ever had! A cup of chowder and half a Reuben made a perfect ladies lunch. There was much raving about the peach cobbler. Some shared it for lunch, some took it home. Wonderful! Try it.
