Wanted: ArtFarm "Seeds"

Readers of my progress reports on The Borrego Art Institute’s (BAI) ArtFarm should have a pretty clear picture of what’s been proposed and approved. And now the ArtFarm is gearing up for an early autumn start, after the heat dissipates. But in order to build the necessary irrigation system, orchard, planter and composting beds, they need ‘seed’ money – $4 - 5,000 dollars worth.

Let’s do the approximate math ... 3,429 residents as of the 2010 census ... less 429 because, well, the math is easier ... 5,000 divided by 3,000 ... hey, less than 2 bucks a head!

However, going door-to-door asking everyone in town for two dollars is a bit time consuming, not to mention issues with cash management, so ArtFarm fundraising director Ken O’Key is heading up an e-mail appeal to a select group of residents – The Seeds – for donations.

Of course, since every dollar counts, that e-mail effort doesn’t prevent civic-minded people in Borrego from pitching in smaller donations – $5, $10, $25, or more – to the Seed Fund and help the Art Farm get off the ground.

The new BAI ArtFarm restaurant, The Kitchen, will be open late this fall and be the focal point around a major fundraising effort for the $30,000 required to complete Phase I of the project. BAI is a 501-c3 organization, and all donations are fully tax-deductible.

Checks can be made payable to The Borrego Art Institute, P.O. Box 2383, Borrego Springs, CA 92004 with the note ‘Seed Fund’ in the memo line.
