Thursday morning the body of a 7-year-old girl reported missing two days earlier was discovered in a canal and a male relative of the girl was arrested. Authorities suspect it’s the body of the Niland girl reported missing on Tuesday. The girl’s relatives said she was last seen swimming in the canal. The body was found at 10:20 a.m. Thursday about 15 miles east of Desert Aire Drive. Police arrested Heinrich Boykins, a 56 year-old Niland resident on suspicion of manslaughter and child neglect. Imperial and Riverside County deputies and employees of the Coachella Valley Water District assisted divers in retrieving the body.
