West Nile Virus – First Two Cases Reported

West Nile virus has infected its first two victims of the year in Riverside County, according to health officials.
A statement released on Wednesday, August. 5. By county public health spokesman Jose Arballo, Jr states - a 37-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman, both residents of western Riverside County, have been hospitalized but are expected to recover.
The illness is spread to humans and animals by Mosquito bites. The insects become infected by feeding on infected birds.
"The risk of serious illness in humans is low," according to the statement. "Most individuals who are infected ... will not experience any illness."
At greatest risk for serious illness are elderly people with compromised immune systems.
