Toran Gaal left San Diego on June 1st to hand-cycle across the country towards Arlington, Virginia. At the end of the first day he was put up for the night by Orchard Hill Country Inn owners in Julian and received visits from the American Legion and John Baca, a medal of Honor recipient. Toran then enjoyed a satisfying meal at Wynola Pizza and Bistro. The Marine Corps veteran was severely wounded and lost both legs when he stepped on an explosive device while serving in Afghanisan in 2011. The Oakhurst, California native decided to make the cross-country trip in order to raise funds and bring attention to Semper Fi. The Semper Fi Fund helped Toran and his family during his difficult recovery and now we wants to give back. The Semer Fi Fund provides financial and other assistance to wounded service members and their families. Toran expects to arrive in Arlington by Sunday, August 2, and will conclude his journey by placing a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Toran’s “Ride Across America” trip has covered nearly 4,000 miles and has been done entirely by hand-cycle.
