A severe weather warning was issued for air to ground and air to water lightning strikes at the coast on Tuesday, causing lifeguards throughout the San Diego coastline to evacuate people from the water and beaches. Lightning actually struck a power pole in Paradise Hills, destroying part of a backyard. In Poway, three tree fires were ignited by lightning. Rain and lightning strikes were reported by the CHP in San Diego, El Cajon, Escondido, Julian, Lakeside and Ramona. The San Diego Water Authority has told businesses and residents that they are required by state law to turn off their irrigation systems for 48 hours whenever more than one-eighth of an inch of rain falls in their area. Thunderstorms remain a possibility until Thursday.
