Sporadic Storms for Coachella Valley

Monsoonal weather conditions are expected to get worse today in the Coachella Valley region with sporadic showers, thunder and lightning popping up across the region. Residents may notice some monsoonal conditions on the desert floor, but they will mostly be present in the local mountains.

The rain and humidity may help firefighters battling the 30,716-are Lake Fire. But officials say storms may also create lightning that spark new wildfires.

“The risk will go up as we get into the first part of this week,” said Brett Albright, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. "Even though lightning may be sporadic, sometimes those are the ones that can sneak up and get you, too”.

Firefighters are monitoring the region and are prepared to be dispatched if other wildfires are sparked.
