A 170-acre fire is presently burning on the Barona Indian Reservation. Barona is located in San Diego County near Lakeside and the Cleveland National Forrest. The nearest community is San Diego Country Estates. The fire began just after 5:00 p.m. Wednesday near Barona Casino on the southeast corner of the reservation. At 8:00 this Thursday morning, the fire was about 38 percent contained. Cal Fire Captain Kendal Bortisser said between 200-260 firefighters were fighting the fire today after working diligently through last night using head lamps. Low moisture, high temperatures and wind are of concern to the crews. As of 8:50 a.m. this morning, Wildcat Canyon Road was open in both directions. Deputies evacuated seven homes Wednesday night and said no more evacuations are needed. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
