It is not very common that Borrego Springs High School receives overseas visitors. But that changed on April 26 when students from five different schools of New Delhi, India visited the campus as part of a two-week trip to San Diego County.

The Borrego Springs Rotary Club made their trip to town possible after local high schoolers from Interact Club showed interest in hosting international students. The Rotarians found host families to house the students for two days.

La Joya Golden Triangle in San Diego, a Rotary International extension, wanted the New Delhi students, who are also part of the Interact Club in their high school, to meet with various fellow students at different high schools in San Diego County, and Borrego Springs was one of them.

The international students were greeted by a group of high schoolers holding an Interact Club banner. Their two-day trip schedule included a hike at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, dinner at El Borrego Restaurant and shadowing local students through their various classes.

The international visitors were exited to meet fellow students. Among them was Upasana Pattabhiraman who shared that the days she had spent in the San Diego County had been amazing because she visited different places and the people were very nice.

"I believe that staying in another country, meeting other people, broadens my horizons. It's so many new experiences, so many new ideas, so many values I pick up, and I think that is amazing. That is something everybody needs to experience sometime in their life," she said.

When she goes back home she would have a story to tell and will advise her family and friends to, "Go on a cultural experience."

Mahdul Garg also visited Borrego Springs from a school for the blind in New Dheli. During her time in the United States she wishes to learn about the technology and inclusion being provided to people with special needs. She wants to take that information back home to implemented it.

Plans are also underway to have ten high school students from San Diego County to be part of a student exchange program in New Delhi. And two of those ten students might be from Borrego Springs High School.
