Eli’s Farms will not be bringing produce boxes down to Borrego Springs this summer. He really needs at least 20 reliable buyers to make it worth his while. Evidently, without Tish here to coordinate the program, last summer’s efforts were not too successful.
However, as of May 7 Emilio will come down again every Friday morning. He will be in the bank parking lot from 7 to 9 a.m. He sells whatever fruits and vegetables are in season. You may remember delicious melons and fresh corn on the cob as summer progresses. Let’s support him!
Last farmers’ market will be held on Friday morning, April 24th at Christmas Circle. Do not miss the final opportunity for this season.
Veterinarian Kendra Jiannuzzi is no longer practicing here in Borrego Springs. She is working at the Black Mountain Pet Clinic in Rancho Penasquitos, 858-484-5000. She will not be notifying patients when shots are due, but your last receipt should let you know. Dr. Howard in Brawley is now our nearest vet. He’s wonderful, my lab Molly says. 760-344-5738.
To cure my post-tax blues, I did some shopping at Borrego Outfitters during their sale. The owners and employees have fun, as do their customers. I didn’t even go near the outdoors or kitchen or shoes sections. No toys or men’s clothes. Just to show their diversity, I’ll tell you what I bought. A cute V-neck T (I really needed that!), short cotton summer PJs (with a lab print), flowery cocktail napkins (sick of my holiday ones), elegant lavender scented lotion, horseradish sauce, and apple cranberry chutney. I saved $37.64 and have already used everything I bought. We are so lucky to have them. Oops! Forgot cheese.
Don’t miss going into Tom Frederick’s enchanting place just across from Christmas Circle. Stunning outdoor plants – small and huge. Garden statuary. A wonderful place to browse and buy. He and BAI have really spiffed up that end of our town.
Watch this space in the next issue. We’ll let you know which restaurants are open, and when, during the coming summer.
